The Lieutenant Governor is the second highest elected official in N.C. and is the only elected official to have powers in both the legislative and executive branches of state government. The lieutenant governor's main responsibility is to preside over the N.C. Senate and is also a member of the Council of State, the N.C. Board of Education, the N.C. Capital Planning Commission, the N.C. Board of Community Colleges, and is Chairman of the eLearning Commission.
