Annotated Bibliography: Home

What is it?

  • A listing of the available sources on a subject, with an annotation following each source listing.
  • A summary of each source, followed by a critical component. Annotations offer observations on the relevance, clarity, accuracy, and quality of the resources cited.
  • The annotated bibliography should reflect the opinion of the author about which resources in a particular field or subject area are potentially the most valuable to the reader.

What do I include?

  • The full citation to the resource in question in appropriate citation format (MLA, APA, etc.).
  • A description (about 250-400 words, depending on the complexity of the assignment) of the resource in question. This may include a summary of content, any particular viewpoint or theoretical perspective on which the author bases his/her research, and conclusions of the author.
  • A statement of the importance of the resource to your research: its usefulness, the quality of its research, reliability, etc.
